A Poem by Fr. Jomon Jose S.J.

You Are Never Alone
She came…
not a windhover, but a sparrow
into my locked, blocked room;
bolted, where food is served
outside the sealed door
pushed through with a sanitized stick.
Sick-
life tested, caged, and crushed
by the virus
I caught her…
peeping through the sill
above the blacked out window
darting, cheeping; curious, searching.
She saw me; fluttered…
flittering cheeped; again
nuzzled and chirped:
“You are never alone, my friend.”
(Dedicated to all those who suffer isolation and despair because they were known to be infected by Covid-19)
